professional hunting
safaris, with attention in detail, to both
infrastructure and good camps. A safari with "Spiral
Horn Safaris" will be an exclusive success, culminating
in both an enjoyable and a memorable experience.
As a company, we fully appreciate the huge financial
implications involved for most clients to come hunting
in Africa, so consequently we are committed
to providing the very best quality hunting experience
possible.
We also guarantee that you will have a great time and
that you will want to hunt with us again. If your criteria
for choosing a safari include “strict ethics of fair chase
hunting”, then we are the company for you.
The safaris on offer can be classified in two categories
namely, regular safaris where a daily rate applies to
both hunter and observers, and a trophy fee is charged
for each animal taken. The second category would be the
special hunting packages which are on offer for a specific
season. Spiral horn Safaris can help you pick the best
category to suit you.

| SPECIES
OF GAME AVAILABLE |
The species of game that we have available
range from hunting big 5
like the Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino. We
have good numbers of leopard, as well as an abundance
of plains game. Numbers of Sable Antelope have taken a
knock due to the Zimbabwean land grabs, but we still have
some on quota, and therefore will go out of our way in
helping you obtain one. All our game is guaranteed to
be completely wild. Spiral Horn Hunting Safaris has concessions
for both rifle hunting and bow hunting.
|
|
|
Our Professional
hunters are experienced in pursuing the Big
5 hunting South Africa and Zimbabwe, as well
as the plains game in Southern Africa, and all of us from
the office staff to the different camping staff are committed
to making your African safari the experience of a lifetime.
|
The Spiral Horn Hunting Safaris headquarters are situated
in South Africa with a representative office in Zimbabwe.
Spiral Horn Safaris also uses other outfitters when needed
and these are hand picked in order to give the same experience
to the client, with as much commitment as we have. Some
of the other outfitters used are “Eco Africa situated
in Johannesburg. They are owners of "The Powder Keg" which
is a well stocked gun shop to take care of all your needs
while on safari. The outfitter in Zimbabwe is “John Sharp
Safaris” with their offices being in Bulawayo. John is
a life member of the “National Rifle Association” as well
as a member of the “African Professional Hunters Association
which has a select membership of around sixty members.

Any professional hunting
safari can be dangerous and potentially hazardous,
and it is essential that all lawful directions and advice
of the safari operator be followed. Spiral Horn Safaris
accepts no responsibility for any illness, accident or
loss whatsoever incurred in the course of the safari,
or for any expenses arising from such illness, accident,
or loss.
|
| DEPOSITS
& TERMS OF BUSINESS |
A 50% deposit on the total daily rate is required to
confirm your safari with the balance payable sixty days
prior to commencement of the safari. All payments are
to be made in cash, traveler's cheques, direct bank transfers
or certified bank cheque or draft.
|
Please note that a combination of plains game with big
game will sometimes require that two or more hunting areas
should be used. Transfers are effected by private aircraft
or by road depending on the distances or on individual
preference.
|
For cats and most small plains game a 7mm, .300 Winchester
magnum, or similar caliber will be adequate with about
forty rounds of softnose ammunition; (a few solids would
be preferable for very small animals).
For Buffalo, Elephant, Hippo and Giraffe the minimum caliber
required by law is a .375 H&H or 9.3mm with 20 rounds
of ammunition. You may use softnose bullets as long as
they are of superior quality such as Trophy Bonded Bear
Claw, Swift A-Frame, Woodleigh and Barnes-X. If you are
uncertain please include at least ten solids.
|
There are no vaccinations required for entry into South
Africa and Zimbabwe, however, it is imperative that malaria
prophylactics be taken both before and after the safari.
For US$50 per person there is a US$250 000 liability cover
and Medical Air Rescue Service available. Please advise
if you would like to be registered for this. Spiral Horn
Safaris (Pvt) Ltd accept no responsibility for any illness,
accident or loss whatsoever incurred during the course
of the safari, or for any expenses arising from such illness,
accident or loss.
|
No Visas are required for South Africa, but Visas are
required by nationals of all countries which require visas
from Zimbabwe. If these are not obtainable in your country
of residence they can be purchased upon arrival in Zimbabwe
for US$30.

|
| 1. |
Four sets of khaki
or olive-coloured clothing plus socks and underwear. Bring
short or long-sleeves – whatever you desire. Laundry is
done on a daily basis but cloudy days can result in a slower
delivery. |
| 2. |
Two pairs
of comfortable hunting boots (in the event one pair might
get wet) – I suggest Courteney boots that are designed for
African conditions. They are much more silent than most
other brand name boots and are available in the USA, Europe,
South Africa and also in Zimbabwe where they are manufactured. |
| 3. |
One warm
jacket for evenings and early mornings – (must be silent
if you are hunting cats). Camouflage is permitted. |
| 4. |
Perhaps
a jogging or tracksuit for sitting around the fire in the
evenings, especially if you are hunting during our winter
months – June through August. Something along these lines
is especially important if you are hunting cats and might
be spending long hours in a very cold blind. (The temperature
could get as low as 32*F / 0*C). |
| 5. |
A wool
cap or ski-hat could come in handy for cat blinds. |
| 6. |
A hat
or cap for protection against the sun. |
| 7. |
Sun-block
lotion, especially if you are sensitive to the sun. Even
our winter sun will burn sensitive skins. |
| 8. |
A small
flashlight for emergencies. |
| 9. |
Perhaps
a light rain-suit or maybe only a top – weather all over
the world is unpredictable these days. |
| 10. |
Malaria
prophylactics. |
| 11. |
Insect
repellent if you are sensitive to bites, in which case I
would also recommend some antihistamine or cortisone cream
for treatment of these bites as they do itch. |
| 12. |
Lip balm
if required. |
| 13. |
Africa
runs on 220v power – in most cases from a generator. If
you have any 110v appliances you might be wise to bring
a 220v to 110v converter. We can generally supply most of
these necessities but backup will never do any harm. |
| 14. |
Sunglasses. |
| 15. |
A good
book? Early hours in a blind can be boring if you are not
mentally psyched into what you are trying to accomplish. |
| 16. |
We do
serve South African wines and genuine Scotch Whisky when
available, but special brand names of your favorite liquor
can seldom be procured. Local Vodka, Gin and Brandy are
quite acceptable to the average palate but I suggest that
you collect from a Duty Free any Single Malt or other specialized
liquor that you may require: e.g. Bombay Sapphire, Crown
Royal, Canadian Club, Polish or Russian Vodka, Genuine Mexican
Tequila etc. |
|
17. |
An open
mind and a good attitude.
Try to bring as little luggage as possible, especially if
you are going to make use of the air charter service. |
